What is love until you’ve found it? And, when you do find it – how do you know it is real? Is it a feeling that develops over time, or is there such a thing as love at first sight?
Our protagonist, Laurie does not believe that love at first sight exists outside of movies … until she encounters a meet cute while on a bus. Her, sitting inside; him, a bystander on the outside. They lock eyes. And, before anything could happen – the bus is off to its next destination.
“Sometimes you just meet the right person at the wrong time”
So begins the year-long search for her prince charming. She looks out at every bus stop, every cafe, albeit unsuccessful. To her surprise, they do meet again eventually – except not the way she had hoped for. They meet again at a Christmas party when her best friend Sarah introduces her new beau, Jack. The man Laurie has been head over heels for, the one she has been looking for over the last year, and the one who is now her best friend’s boyfriend is yes, one and the same.
We really get to see these characters mature and unfold over the next 10 years as their loyalty to each other is put to the test. Friendship, betrayal, heartache and romance.
I fell in love with the characters and I miss them already. This story was a great reminder of how strong and beautiful a friendship bond can be. Laurie also showed her strength by letting go of someone she truly loved by putting their happiness before her own. This is definitely easier said than done, but I went on this emotional rollercoaster with her anyway and I am so glad I chose to go on that journey with her. Each character matured and developed well over the 10 year course of the story, and I am so glad with the decisions each one of them made.
I was only about 2 years late in picking up this book, but I am so glad I finally did. After the crazy year of 2020, a light romance novel was exactly what I needed.
If you need a quick break from life with the promise of a happy ending, then I’d definitely recommend you give this book a shot.
